Minimal Bedroom : Off White

Updated: Nov 12, 2022

Minimalism : noun

" A movement in sculpture and painting which arose in the 1950s, characterized by the use of simple, massive forms." - Google.

In interior design minimalism is classified by having a handful of essential elements, main big pieces, clean lines and very little to no decoration. You can of course have colour but its usually used as accent to the within a monochromatic palette or colour scheme. This mood board is all about the idea of minimalism and neutral colouring for a bedroom idea which can be a little like marmite you either love it or hate it. Some people love the simplicity, the chicness of having a neutral colour palette with key focal pieces and simple decorative items that just add minor but eye catching details to the room. Others hate this type of style as they find it boring, soulless, or lifeless due to the lack of colour but beauty is always in the eye of the beholder.

This design actually started with the bed. This bed to me is simply beautiful. It has an all over cotton upholstery with the options of having an ottoman for under mattress storage or having drawers at the sides. I love the design of it with the lined upholstery and the cleanness of its shape and style. I also like the fact it has rounded edges rather than square as for some people the corners of a regular edge bed can prove hazardous. It creates the main focal point for the room and everything else was built up around up when creating this design.

For this I envisioned a cream off white to beige all over carpet for underfoot softness as I personally find it so much nicer to get up in the mornings and touch on a soft floor rather than a wooden or laminate floor as they can be cold underfoot at certain times of the year but of course that is a personal choice. The lighting I selected a gold tone to add that detail of chicness but to also add an accent colour that can be incorporated into the theme without looking out of place. The ceiling light is a brushed brass with smoked tubular glass and also accommodates LED bulbs which are more energy efficient. Instead of selecting bedside lamps for the beds I also chose sconces in the same design which match the ceiling light and also saves space on the bedside tables for other items and it also saves having wires leading to plugs which can be a nuisance.

The accent chair I absolutely adore. It is such a nice shape and design and the material is a whitewash boucle. The curved design matches the bed with its curves edges and also creates another focal point of the room as this piece draws the eye to where ever it may sit. The bedside table I have selected here is a sculpture style design and ties in well with the minimalist design as it has the sculpture and simplicity element to it. The wardrobe is a standard slide robe which has the option of having mirrors rather than regular doors therefore there will more light reflected within the room as obviously mirrors reflect light back around the room causing the lighting to be increased leaving your room feeling light and airy.

This style of interiors design is as I said a love it or hate it style but it does create elegance, clean lines and gives the illusion of grandness.
